Workshops

Play As The Way: Social Responsibility Foundations (2 day working & Audit):

This will discuss the concept of using play based training to teach the skills needed for social responsibility. Participants will learn the several novel ways to use food including the Treat Chase Game, and how to use structured Personal Play. You will learn the Red Light Green Light Game on a retractable leash, as well as Pressure And Release, and a complete system of  tactical leash handling skills. The Rub Down to put relaxation on cue will also be covered. This Seminar should give you all the skills you need to prepare to pass GRC Dogsports Social Responsibility Test if you choose to pursue that goal.

Play As The Way: Sport Foundations (2 day working & Audit):

We’ll introduce you to the world of GRC Dogsports Drive Sports. There will be work on The basics of Toy Play and Harness Acclimation. We’ll also introduce the Spring Pole, Wall Climb, Weight Pull, and Mill Races. You’ll learn how to use indirect rewards. And, learn the difference between Supportive Games and the Competitive Games most people use in training. These ideas will take your work to the next level even if you don’t want to pursue any actual sport titles.

Play As The Way/GRC Dogsports Advanced Skill (2 day working & Audit):

In this workshop we will work with different teams to handle their specific issues/goals. This may mean trouble shooting one of their foundation skills. Or, working in the advanced levels of the GRC Drive events. This is also where the unique rehab drills can be done. Faith In Handler. Trust Obstacles. Empowered Desensitization. Etc….  Because of this, every seminar will be different. As every team will be dealing with unique and specific things. No two will ever cover the exact same material. Even people looking ONLY for rehab work need the foundation skills. We will NOT cover trigger work without foundation work. This is for teams who already have a grasp of the material in both of the Play as the Way Foundation workshops. Whether it is from attending a workshop, or working with a trainer that understands the concept (please contact to get permission to attend without the PAW pre-requisites).

Canine Defensive Tactics (1 day no dogs):

This workshop will be active. But will be without antendee’s dogs. We will discuss defending outside targets from a dog you are working. Breaking up dog fights. And, defending yourself from dogs. We will practice techniques. And discuss using training games with dogs as a way to develop your skills. If possible…. We will arrange for a local protection/law enforcement trainer to bring a dog and bite gear so everyone that wants to, can catch a few bites and better understand the experience. This should be a required class for anyone working with dogs in any capacity. Not just “trainers”. This workshop can be a stand alone event or added as another day to another workshop.

PB101 (1/2 day lecture):

The history of Pit Bulls and Dog Fighting. The truth about the breed and the selective pressures that made them. Understanding how the old dogmen created dog aggression, and how we can avoid accidentally creating it. What training methods and concepts they used that WERE good, and we should consider keeping or expanding on! How use this understanding to integrate dogs with fighting tendencies into a home. Or, RE integrate dogs after a fight. No hands on training will be done. This is Lecture, and interactive Q & A only. May be added on before a regular workshop. Or as a stand alone lecture.

Other recommended workshops:

Chad Mackin: If you haven’t already attended or hosted a Chad Mackin workshop, you owe it to yourself to attend one!

Ivan Balabanov: The Catalyst of my studying Tug and play as a complete system. The other main pillar of my work.
